"opportunities ready for business"

Starting your own business and picking the right niche in no time

Join us for the next installment Talk Shop Tuesday with John Morris, partner at Clearpath Ventures and contractor for Consolidated Nuclear Services, to learn about Opportunities Ready for Business. John will discuss technologies that have been developed at Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, which are now being offered as opportunities for commercialization and licensing. Proven in the field, these ideas are in use today at Y-12, enabling them to be made and sold with very little investment.

This event is designed to make expand awareness of business opportunities or to add a product to your existing business. There will be opportunities for feedback from the audience at this event as well via smartphones.

The technologies presented will be in the following markets:

• Blast resistant seat for law enforcement or military

• Low cost chemical sensing

• Delayed door latching for security applications

• Software for emergency management

• Infrared for debonding paint and adhesives

• Corporate knowledge preservation software

• Microwave method to reduce machine tool waste

• Personal device for alerting corporate security issues

• Low cost carbon nanotube production

• Environmentally safe solvent for paint and adhesive removal

• Dry wipes for residue removal

Currently, John is a partner in Clearpath Ventures. Clearpath is a venture focused company, engaging with multiple companies as a team member to provide strategic experience, guidance and direction. These companies range from seed to early stage, with special emphasis on the IT and healthcare sectors.

Previously, John was the President and CEO of Technology 2020, a venture development organization focused on the development of entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Tennessee Valley Corridor. He has worked with technology businesses for 25 years. Holding degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mr. Morris has been instrumental in forming five technology commercialization ventures, utilizing technology from five different disciplines. He began his career in engineering design with Tennessee Valley Authority at the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant. Later, he moved to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and worked in artificial intelligence and expert systems research.

John’s first small business experience was with Consultec Scientific, Inc., a Knoxville based startup focused on technology transfer and commercialization.
